A Belfast, nell'estate del 1792, alcuni dei pochi rimasti tra gli arpisti itineranti irlandesi si riunirono per un festival organizzato dalla Belfast Harp Society. A un giovane musicista, Edward Bunting, fu affidato il compito di trascrivere la musica di questi arpisti. Grazie a questo, disponiamo di una piccola parte del repertorio dell'antica musica per arpa irlandese. Nel 2006, al festival di San Benedetto in Alpe ( FC - Italia ) due appassionati del repertorio del Belfast Harp Festival 1792, Mario Lipparini e Seamus O'Kane si incontrarono per caso, suonando fianco a fianco durante una session in cucina. La forte passione per la musica arpa che hanno condiviso ha superato le differenze della barriera linguistica e la distanza geografica tra di loro e ha dato vita a una forte amicizia. Dopo anni di musica insieme in sessioni casuali hanno deciso di registrare un album. Nel 2010, Seamus O'Kane, con Michael Billinge ha costruito una replica della famosa "Downhill Harp" , l'arpa suonata da Denis O'Hampsey (Hempson) al Belfast Harp Festival nel 1792. Su questa replica, seduti davanti alla casa di Paul O'Shaughnessy in Kinvara i due amici hanno registrato un paio di musiche utilizzando un registratore a mano con sottofondo di canto d'uccelli nel loro coro dell'alba. Poi hanno risuonato questi brani in uno studio di registrazione. (Questi brani di Kinvara sono inclusi al termine dell'album per consentire un confronto diretto tra le due diverse arpe con le corde di metallo). Il contrasto tra la dolcezza della musica per arpa con la durezza del bodhran rende intrigante l'ascolto. Quasi tutti i brani provengono da Bunting Manuscript, o hanno qualche connessione con esso.

In Belfast in the summer of 1792, some of the few remaining Irish itinerant harpers reunited for a festival organised by the Belfast Harp Society. A young musician, Edward Bunting, was entrusted with the task of transcribing the music of these harpers. Thanks to this, we have a small part of the repertoire of the Ancient Music of Ireland. In 2006, at the festival of San Benedetto in Alpe (FC – Italy) two fans of the repertoire of the Belfast Harp Festival 1792, Mario Lipparini and Seamus O’Kane met by chance, playing side by side during a session in the kitchen. The strong passion for harp music that they shared overcame the differences of the language barrier and the geographical distance between them and gave birth to a strong friendship. After years of playing together in casual sessions they decided to record. In 2010, Seamus O'Kane, with Michael Billinge built a replica of the famous “Downhill Harp”, the harp played by Denis O'Hampsey at the Belfast Harp Festival in 1792. On this replica, sitting outside Paul O’Shaughnessy’s house in Kinvara they recorded a few tunes using a simple hand held recorder with birds in the background singing their dawn chorus. Later they went to a recording studio to re-record. (These Kinvara tunes are included at the end of the album just to allow a direct comparison between the two wire strung harps.) Contrasting the sweetness of the harp music with the harshness of the bodhran makes for interesting listening. Almost all of the songs come from Bunting Manuscript, or have some connection with it.
